- Derek Powers is an executive at WayneTech. Some higher up with a fancy title. Warren McGinnis is one of his employees.
- Warren turns becomes a whistleblower after discovering Derek's plans to build and sell a chemical weapon to the highest bidder, is murdered to keep him quiet.
- It's covered up as a robbery gone wrong, but Terry knows it wasn’t random but the system won’t touch Powers.
- Bruce as Batman catches Terry and his friends breaking into a WayneTech facility.
-The rest of Terry's friends run, but he doesn't. He stands his ground and gets his ass kicked. He knows how to take a punch and gets back up again, even after he's knocked on his ass.

-Bruce is not retired. Still patrolling. A little older. A lot meaner.
-The Bat-Family is scattered or dead or estranged
-Decides to keep an eye on Terry after the warehouse fight.
-Tails him one night. Sees him visit his father's grave.
- Terry tracks down Batman later on and Bruce offers him a deal. If he wants justice he has to earn it. Reluctantly agrees to train him.
- he's brutal and merciless, but Terry works hard for it.

[ Under normal circumstances, Terry would have told Bruce what he was up to before patrol tonight. There were enough secrets between them and he wanted to be the example of up front honesty he sometimes thinks is lacking in their working relationship. But. These aren't normal circumstances, considering Terry's not really supposed to know about Jason. He's one of Bruce's (many) well kept secrets. So in order to be honest about it, Terry would have to admit he's been snooping into parts of the computer he wasn't supposed to access.

So secrecy it is and Terry justifies it by telling himself Bruce's got plenty of things to hide. It's not such a bad thing to want to keep something to himself for a change.

He arrives soon after Jason's last message comes through, dressed perfectly for a night of sparring. There's a polite knock and when the door opens, Terry's leaning against a railing, smiling at his host, backpack dangling carelessly from one shoulder. ]

Aren't you going to invite me in?

[ Adjusting to life in the past wasn't the hardest part about any of this. For the most part, Terry could live without the automation and the other conveniences future living brought to Neo Gotham. Of course, he had to learn how to work a coffee maker that wasn't voice activated and use a manual elevator and remember to use cash because he was pretty sure if he tried to swipe his cash card, he'd be arrested. But it wasn't all bad. Not ideal, but not bad.

So if anyone asked, he'd be quick to tell them. It wasn't hard living retro. It was hard living with Bruce friggin Wayne. He'd always thought the old man was a hard ass, no question about it. But he also got a break from him. He got to go to his own home and sleep in his own bed and maybe sometimes have a social life if his own little merry band of misfits decided they'd behave long enough he could see the inside of a night club.

He thought - stupidly, foolishly he knows - that maybe a younger version of Bruce would be. He didn't know. Mellow? Chill? Not so tightly wound? But he was none of those things. If anything, he was more intense than ever. He'd spent hours interrogating Terry, vetting his story, confirmed what he could of it, looking at the suit and checking the tech in it. And at the end of it all, he still suspicious.

Terry supposed he should have been grateful Bruce hadn't just kicked his ass and tossed him into Arkham the second he popped into existence and claimed he was Batman from the future. And he was! He was even more grateful when Bruce agreed to help him get back to where he belonged. But that meant sitting tight. And it also meant no more Batman of the Future.

He tried. Terry really did and for a while, he was kind of glad to have the time off. There was time to catch up on sleep. To see movies and hang out with the other Bats, when they had the chance. He learned how to boil water and make tea from Alfred, instead of relying on a electric kettle to do it for him. It was nice seeing Bruce's life when it had people other than himself in it. But after a while? It got old. Really old and he found himself itching to get back out there again. When Bruce said no, it made Terry feel like he was going to lose it. He didn't have to be Batman, but Bruce couldn't keep him locked up in the manor forever.

But that was exactly what Bruce intended and that's how Terry found himself on the doorstep of Dick Grayson, after his latest clash with Bruce. It'd been a particularly nasty one and he just needed a few days to cool off. So he packed his shit (he didn't have much) and left. He's leaning against the frame of the door when it opens. ]

Got room for one more?

joyride.

This was probably the dumbest idea he's ever had.

The silhouette of the thing is clearly Batman but the person operating it? Clearly not. In short, static-y bursts, Terry can activate the boots but has yet to discover the rhythm that keeps them on and him air born. So there are moments - painful moments - that he comes crashing down to earth.

And he doesn't understand it. He's watched Bruce work on this thing for months. Watched him take the tech through its paces. Watched him activate the thrusters and extend the wings like his suit's always had them. Watched him fly. So it wasn't like Terry didn't know what to do. Why won't it work for him?

Terry lands again, hard against the solid surface of a building's rooftop and he swears, as he lays there trying to catch his breath, that he's broken something. Even though the suit's done its job and absorbed the impact of the fall, Terry's afraid to move in case something detrimental has happened to his bones. And maybe, he figures, it's better to just lay here and let whoever it is the ears are picking up approaching him kill him right then and there.

That'd be less painful than Bruce finding out he swiped the suit.

[ It had been 910 days since Warren McGinnis was murdered in his home. Terry knew because he kept count of the days on calendar hidden in his room. His mom had found it once, questioned him about it. Wanted him to go to therapy. Terry refused and assured her he was okay. Promised her he would get rid of the thing. Instead, he just hid it better.

It had been 903 days since he met Bruce Wayne, CEO of Wayne Enterprises. Terry remembers the first time he saw him, cutting an imposing figure among the guests at Warren's funeral, while he spoke quietly with Mary. They were divorced, amicably, but still very much Not Together. And while Mary appreciated Bruce's generosity, she gently turned down his offers to continuing cutting Warren's check. To help ease the burden. No, Terry remembers her saying, They would be okay.

But they weren't okay. Not even a little.

It was hard adjusting to life with Mary again. And he tried. He really tried. But there were times when she nitpicked a little too much or was a little too harsh and Terry wanted to scream at her. Because he was angry, so very angry and it had nowhere to go. So it stayed bottled up, coiled up tight in his chest and it felt like it would explode at any minute. Instead, he packed a bag and slipped out his bedroom window.

He met Batman that night and that changed his world. Tilted it upright when Warren's murder had so violently tipped it sideways.

Bruce had given him an outlet. Something to focus all of that pain and grief and rage on. And he agreed to help Terry nail the bastard who shot his father. The solution was an easy one, Terry had been home that night, had heard it all. He knew the voice - would always remember it. All he needed was a name.

When he had it, he gave it to Bruce right away. And what did he do with it? From Terry's perspective, nothing. Not a damned thing. And maybe that made him a little bit resentful. Resentful enough that he decided to do something about himself.

It's not the first time he's turned off the tracker in his suit. Just the longest. The radio in his ear cackles to life and he can hear Bruce. Robin, your signal is lost. Status?

Must be out of range, he says. And that's not technically a lie. He should be in the Bowery. That's where Bruce told him to be. But tonight, he's perched on the rooftop across from one of the most expensive restaurants in town. Through the windows, he can see him. Derek Powers, laughing and sipping expensive wine, like everything is normal. Like he didn't kill Warren 910 days ago. Maybe he didn't remember. Terry would remind him.

He hears the radio again. Robin! ]

I'm here, Batman. I'm okay. I'll catch up with you soon.

[ then he flicks the radio off. ]

Terry would say stranger things have happened. But for him? They really hadn't. Compared to Bruce's tenure, Terry would probably say his was rather ordinary. If you could call folks like Blight and Inque ordinary. But at least there were no weird time shenanigans or dimension hopping. That had been more of the Justice League's gimmick than his own. And he did not envy them for it. Too many ways it could all go wrong. He much preferred staying grounded in a world that made sense. This one? Made no sense at all.

No automation. No hum of the hover cars in traffic. Not even a gang of Jokerz and Terry might have been thrilled to see them, if that didn't make him sound insane. All things considered, it was hard to believe he was even in the same place. And until he could be sent back home, he'd have to make due with it. Learn to adjust and hope it won't take too long to reverse whatever caused this whole dimension displacement thing in the first place.

He's careful not to stray too far into manor, considering Bruce had been kind enough not to kick his ass and toss him into Arkham the second he poofed into existence and claimed to be Batman of the future. He must have sounded absolutely insane and if not for the suit he had in the backpack still slung over his shoulder, absolutely unbelievable. It's strange being here, when the manor looks lived in and less gloomy. And it makes him curious to see more of it. But he stays where he's been told to wait. This isn't an old man he can outrun Terry's dealing with after all.

"Thanks for not immediately slagging me, Bruce." He doesn't sound very sure in how he addresses Bruce. Was it too weird? He was absolutely not the old man Terry had been with only the night before. But he ultimately decides it's fine. He had to have some kind of confidence if he wanted Bruce to believe his story, right? Right.
